In Which I Stare at Ducks
I was sitting by the river today, during the hour I have between my morning classes. It wasn't as pretty as it usually is; there were bits of foam flecking the surface of the water as far as I could see, both upstream and down. I was still lovely, though. And there was a pair of very amusing ducks. I was sitting on a bench behind the memorial union on the far side of the path that traces the riverbank. Two ducks, one beautiful mallard with a glowing green head and the other a tawny and scrawny one with a stripe of blue on his or her wings, waddled up as I sat down. They sidled into the periphery of my vision, heads bobbing and nibbling on bits of fluff. They came closer and closer until they were three feet from me, with only the path separating us. They totally wanted food. And I was so tempted to feed them. It kind of made my day.
